SD70 Pacific Rim is looking for Homestay families for International students from around the world. Many students who were not able to join us this year deferred their school plans and are hopeful in joining us next September. We have students wishing to come from 7 different countries. These countries are mainly in Europe.
We understand that safety is a concern, although many of us should be fully vaccinated by September. Any student arriving currently in Canada requires a negative COVID-19 test result before they fly. They are tested again upon arrival and also need to be quarantined for two weeks in the home. They also require a third COVID test on their 8th day and this test has to be negative in order for them to be out of quarantine. This process went smoothly with the students we received over this past school year. We are unsure at this time if this will still be the case in September as things continue to improve overall, but we are preparing for that just in case.
We are looking for homestays to provide care for a 5-month or 10-month student as well as homestays that would be able to serve as respite.
There is a generous monthly honorarium provided for Homestay families, both for full-time or respite, with an additional quarantine fee if that is needed to be provided.
- Host families are expected to provide a “home away from home” and to facilitate the student’s integration into family, school, and community activities.
- Host families are provided with training and support by the International Homestay Coordinator during the student’s stay.
- Prospective host families must complete a criminal record check and driver’s abstract.
